Surprisingly, I was refunded the resort fee with taxes. On check out, I informed the staff of the A/C issue so it could be fixed for the next guests. It sputtered and the fan speed increased. I cranked the A/C to the deepest blue on the thermostat dial and selected high for the fan.
Speaking of hot air, when I opened the door to my room, I was first greeted with the smell of burning dust (the same smell from turning a heater on for the first day of winter) That wouldn't be a problem if there wasn't a large gaping hole surrounding the A/C unit letting all the noise and hot air in. Usually that would be a good thing, but in this case it wasn't I was situated in one of the 'Ocean View' wing rooms facing the pool.
The building originally opened in 1973 as the Howard Johnson, and all the soot, dirt & dust build-up on the bathroom duct damper looked like it also hadn't been cleaned since 1973. I would come back later to the front desk to get clarification on this and would be told I was given a wrong total. I received a rate 2.5x what I had originally booked, even after looking at resort fee. I knew something was amiss during check-in. You're getting a cheap room, but who knew it could be this bad.
